Are you trying to work out whether your Foshan order should leave from a river terminal at Sanshan, ride a barge into Yantian, or go by truck straight to Nansha — and what the shipment really costs once US duty lands on it? This guide gives you the gateway decision, dated 2026 ocean, LCL, air and DDP rates, the HS-level duty stack that now applies to Foshan's main exports, and the customs filings that decide whether your container clears in two days or ten.

What Makes Shipping from Foshan to the USA Different from Other China Lanes
Foshan Is a River Port, Not a Deep-Sea Gateway
Foshan is one of Guangdong's largest manufacturing cities, but it has no deep-water container terminal. Its port code, CNFOS, covers inland river docks — Foshan New Port, Sanshan in Nanhai (CNSSH), Shunde and Sanshui — which feed Nansha, Yantian, Shekou and Hong Kong by barge. What your container actually sees is a barge slot, a connection window at a mother port, and a cut-off that belongs to the barge rather than the vessel.
The connection has improved: Shenzhen and Foshan now run a combined port in which Yantian is the load port and Foshan's river docks act as feeders, with customs handled through the journey instead of at two borders. That saves a re-entry step and, on good weeks, a day — but the cargo still has to reach deep water first.
Barge or Truck: The Decision That Sets Your Cut-off
From a factory in Lecong or Longjiang, the road distances are roughly 60–80 km to Nansha, 120–140 km to Shekou and 160 km or more to Yantian. That is the difference between a 1–1.5 hour dray and a 2.5–3 hour one, and on a 40HQ it shows up as roughly $220–$320 of drayage to Nansha versus $380–$520 to Yantian.
The bigger cost is the one nobody quotes: what happens when you miss the cut-off. At Nansha the next sailing on the same service is usually 1–2 days away. At Shekou or Yantian it is often 3–5 days, and if the mother vessel is already loaded your container rolls to the following string. That single fact decides most Foshan port choices — which is why full containers usually leave through Nansha unless the booking needs a US West Coast string that only calls Yantian. Our shipping from Shenzhen to the USA guide covers those Shenzhen rotations, and the Guangzhou lane guide covers Nansha's.
A barge only pays when the factory sits by the dock and the saving survives 1–2 days of water time plus connection risk. For LCL, the Foshan-to-port leg is charged per cubic meter, so a cheap CFS near Nansha can beat a premium sailing.
Where Your Cargo Actually Comes From
Foshan is not one industry, and the differences matter at the customs desk:
- Furniture — Lecong sells (a showroom strip from Lanshi Bridge toward Longjiang Bridge), Longjiang makes, and Jiujiang adds mattresses. Flat-pack and fully assembled sofas leave the same city but behave nothing alike in a container.
- Ceramics and tiles — Nanzhuang in Chancheng district, the tile trading center. Heavy, fragile, and subject to an anti-dumping order.
- Aluminum profiles and hardware — Dali in Nanhai, plus the Bomei hardware market. Section 232 metal exposure.
- Home appliances — Beijiao and the wider Shunde cluster: air conditioners, refrigerators, small appliances.
- Lighting — Nanhai, where decorative and architectural lighting suppliers cluster.
That map is why two shipments from the same port can sit 25 percentage points apart on duty.
How Much Does It Cost to Ship from Foshan to the USA in 2026?
Rates below are planning bands for Foshan-origin cargo in October 2026, port-to-port unless stated, and they come from the bookings DTFU Logistics quotes weekly out of Nansha and Yantian. They are not the spot index; the gap is explained below.
Ocean Freight Rates by US Gateway
| US gateway | 20GP | 40GP | 40HQ | Ocean transit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Los Angeles / Long Beach | $3,300 – $4,300 | $5,100 – $6,300 | $5,300 – $6,600 | 15 – 19 days |
| Oakland | $3,400 – $4,400 | $5,200 – $6,400 | $5,400 – $6,700 | 16 – 20 days |
| Seattle / Tacoma | $3,400 – $4,400 | $5,200 – $6,400 | $5,400 – $6,700 | 16 – 21 days |
| New York / New Jersey | $4,600 – $5,700 | $7,000 – $8,400 | $7,200 – $8,700 | 30 – 36 days |
| Savannah / Charleston | $4,700 – $5,800 | $7,100 – $8,500 | $7,300 – $8,800 | 31 – 38 days |
| Houston | $4,800 – $5,900 | $7,200 – $8,600 | $7,400 – $8,900 | 32 – 39 days |
These are freight only. Add origin charges (pickup, export declaration, port handling), destination THC, DDC, chassis, ISF, brokerage and duty — the freight cost breakdown walks through each line, and our container cost guide covers per-box benchmarks.
LCL, Air and DDP Rates from Foshan
| Mode | Rate band, October 2026 | Door-to-door | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ocean LCL to US West Coast | $95 – $155 per CBM, minimum 2 CBM | 30 – 38 days | 2 – 14 CBM |
| Ocean LCL to US East Coast or Gulf | $110 – $175 per CBM, minimum 2 CBM | 38 – 48 days | 2 – 14 CBM |
| Air freight, CAN to LAX / ORD / JFK | $5.80 – $8.20 per kg (100 – 499 kg); $4.80 – $6.60 per kg (500 kg and up) | 4 – 7 days | 100 – 1,000 kg |
| Express courier (DHL, FedEx, UPS) | $9.50 – $14.50 per kg | 3 – 6 days | Samples, under 100 kg |
| Sea DDP, duty included | $210 – $320 per CBM | 30 – 45 days | Hands-off importing |
FCL under DDP is quoted against your invoice value rather than per container, because duty now dwarfs freight on most Foshan products. DDP shipping from China to the USA explains the term itself, and DDP versus FOB explains what shifts between them.
What the 2026 Duty Stack Adds by Product
Since July 24, 2026, Chinese-origin goods carry an additional Section 301 duty of 12.5% under HTS heading 9903.05.31 (CBP CSMS #69326983), on top of the existing Section 301 lists. Where a Section 232 metal or furniture duty already applies, the forced-labor layer is not charged. Base rates for Foshan's main categories now look like this:
| Foshan product | Typical HS | MFN | Section 301 | Forced-labor 12.5% | Other layer | Base duty |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wooden tables, cabinets, nightstands | 9403.60 | Free | 25% | Yes | AD/CVD may apply | 37.5% |
| Upholstered wooden chairs, kitchen cabinets | 9401.61 / 9403.40 | Free | 25% | Not charged | Section 232 furniture 25% | 50% |
| Porcelain and ceramic tiles | 6907.21 | 8.5 – 10% | 25% | Yes | AD/CVD A-570-108 | 46 – 47.5% plus AD/CVD |
| LED panels, chandeliers, lamps | 9405.11 / 9405.19 | 3.9 – 7.6% | 25% | Yes | — | 41.4 – 45.1% |
| Mattresses | 9404.29 | 6% | 25% | Yes | AD/CVD A-570-092 | 43.5% |
| Aluminum doors and windows | 7610.10 | 5.7% | 7.5% | Not charged | Section 232 aluminum 50% | 63.2% |
| Stainless kitchen sinks | 7324.10 | 3.4% | 25% | Not charged | Section 232 steel 25% | 53.4% |
Two things follow. Duty classification is now a bigger lever than freight negotiation: the same factory can ship a dining chair at 50% and a sideboard at 37.5%, depending on how the item is built and described. And the tariff calendar is not settled — some exclusions expire in November 2026, several Section 232 rates rise in January 2027, and USTR's September 2026 "30-for-30" review covers more than 75 Chinese product categories. None of it is in force today; all of it changes a Q1 2027 booking.
Why Your Quote Differs from the Spot Index
Drewry's World Container Index on 15 October 2026 put Shanghai to Los Angeles at $7,884 per 40ft, Shanghai to New York at $10,075 and the composite at $4,485, with six blank sailings announced for the following week. Those are Shanghai spot numbers. Foshan volumes sit lower because most of this cargo moves on named-account or NVOCC contract rates, Nansha and Yantian price differently from Shanghai, and containers are usually booked weeks ahead. A quote far below both our band and the index is missing scope: no destination THC, no chassis, duty on the wrong HS line, or a "door" that is really a terminal gate.
How Long Does Shipping from Foshan to the USA Take?
| Leg | FCL | LCL |
|---|---|---|
| Booking window and vessel waiting | 2 – 4 days | 2 – 5 days |
| Factory pickup and loading | 1 – 2 days | 1 – 2 days |
| Barge or truck to deep-sea port | 1 – 2 days (barge), same day (truck) | 1 – 2 days plus CFS receiving |
| Ocean to US West Coast | 15 – 19 days | 15 – 19 days sailing |
| Ocean to US East Coast or Gulf | 30 – 39 days | 30 – 39 days sailing |
| Consolidation and deconsolidation | — | 3 – 7 days |
| US port handling, customs release, drayage | 2 – 7 days | 3 – 8 days |
| Total door-to-door | 22 – 32 days West Coast, 36 – 48 East Coast | 30 – 38 days West Coast, 42 – 52 East Coast |
The ocean leg is the most predictable part. The variable is the connection: a Foshan barge that arrives after the mother vessel's cut-off costs you the sailing, not a day. Peak season compounds it — Golden Week in early October and the pre-Lunar New Year rush both tighten capacity, and the Pearl River Delta typhoon season from July to September can close terminals for 24–48 hours. For a month-by-month picture, see shipping time from China to the USA.
Which US Port Should Your Foshan Container Enter?
| Gateway | Ocean transit | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Los Angeles / Long Beach | 15 – 19 days | CA, NV, AZ warehouses; Amazon FBA in Southern California | Chassis availability and peak drayage; the busiest pair in the US |
| Oakland | 16 – 20 days | Northern California, Pacific Northwest | Fewer direct strings; some Nansha services relay |
| Seattle / Tacoma | 16 – 21 days | WA, OR, inland Northwest | Smaller vessel pool, thinner weekly options |
| New York / New Jersey | 30 – 36 days | NY, NJ, PA, New England | Panama Canal slot limits; highest terminal charges |
| Savannah / Charleston | 31 – 38 days | Southeast distribution centers | Q4 congestion; inland rail from Savannah is tight |
| Houston | 32 – 39 days | Texas and central US | Fewer sailings; heavy terminal and trucking costs |
| IPI rail via Los Angeles | 24 – 30 days to a Midwest ramp | Chicago, Dallas, Memphis, Kansas City | Rail dwell of 5 – 10 days in peak season |
Start from the delivery ZIP, not the ocean rate. A Foshan sofa set bound for a New Jersey 3PL is usually cheaper all-water than landing in Los Angeles and railing east; a container bound for Ontario, California should never touch the East Coast. For Amazon sellers there is a second layer: FBA appointment windows. A container that discharges Friday and cannot get an appointment until Wednesday is paying storage, and the cheapest fix is a transload at a 3PL near the fulfillment center — which is why our Amazon FBA service exists.
Shipping Furniture from Foshan to the USA: Lacey Act, TSCA and Packing That Survives
Furniture is Foshan's largest category, and where first-time importers lose the most money — not on freight, but on documents and damage.
The Lacey Act declaration is not optional. Any product containing plant material — solid wood, plywood, MDF, veneer — needs a Lacey Act declaration filed with APHIS (PPQ Form 505) before import, naming the genus and species of every wood component and the country of harvest. A supplier who writes only "wood" or "MDF" creates a problem that cannot be fixed at the port: the entry is held, and the importer carries the liability.
Composite wood has its own federal rule. TSCA Title VI (40 CFR Part 770) sets formaldehyde emission limits for particleboard, MDF and hardwood plywood, and California's CARB Phase 2 rules apply on top for anything sold in California. Panels must carry compliant labels and the supply chain has to keep records; "our factory says it is E0" is not evidence.
Solid-wood packing needs the ISPM-15 stamp. That applies to crates, pallets and dunnage — not to the furniture itself. A missing IPPC mark on a crate can send the whole container to a fumigation order at your cost.
Upholstery and mattresses bring more layers. California TB 117-2013 covers upholstered furniture sold there, mattresses fall under 16 CFR Part 1632/1633, and Chinese mattresses face an anti-dumping order that Jiujiang shippers know well.
On the physical side, furniture is priced on volume, and volume is wasted by air. Knock-down flat-pack campaigns typically load 40–60% more sellable product into a 40HQ than assembled pieces — often a bigger saving than any rate negotiation. Non-stackable sofas need load planning before the truck arrives, not at the gate. Wrap corners and glass, use container desiccant rather than silica sachets alone, and insist on loading photos: most damage claims we handle are decided by what those photos show.
Shipping Ceramic Tiles and Building Materials from Foshan to the USA: The AD/CVD Reality
Tiles are the opposite problem: heavy, tough, and commercially difficult. A 40HQ of 600×600 mm porcelain hits US road weight limits — normally around 19.9 metric tons of cargo — long before it runs out of cubic space, which works out at roughly 780–820 square meters. Loading to the container's rated payload instead of the highway limit is a classic Foshan mistake: the box arrives, and the trucker refuses it.
The duty position is the real constraint. Porcelain and ceramic tiles (HS 6907.21) carry 8.5–10% MFN duty, 25% Section 301, and the 12.5% forced-labor duty — 46–47.5% before any trade remedy. On top of that sits the anti-dumping and countervailing order on Chinese ceramic tile (A-570-108), which has been in force since 2020 and was continued after its first sunset review in March 2026. Cash-deposit rates under that order are high enough that most US buyers of Chinese tile have shifted volume to India, Spain or Vietnam. If you are still sourcing Foshan tile, the landed cost has to include the AD/CVD rate your exporter is actually assessed — not the base duty alone.
Wood flooring has its own anti-dumping order. Aluminum doors and windows (7610.10) reach 63.2% once Section 232 aluminum applies, and extrusions sit under A-570-967; stainless sinks reach 53.4%. None of these is unwinnable, but each duty line has to be priced before the PO.
US Customs Clearance for Foshan Imports: ISF, Bond and the 2026 Rules
US clearance starts in Foshan, not at the port of arrival. The ISF (Importer Security Filing, "10+2") must be filed at least 24 hours before the container is loaded at the origin port, and a late or inaccurate filing carries a penalty of up to $5,000 per violation. For a Foshan container the loading event may be the barge, which is why the ISF clock often starts earlier than shippers expect; the ocean manifest (AMS) has the same 24-hour rule.
Three things changed in 2026 that affect every Foshan shipment:
- The $800 de minimis exemption is gone. CBP's final rule of June 24, 2026 made the suspension indefinite for all modes, so even a small sample shipment now needs an entry and pays duty. Budget for it on samples and spare parts.
- Fees moved on October 1. The merchandise processing fee stays at 0.3464% of value, but the FY2027 minimum is now $34.58 and the maximum $670.86; the harbor maintenance fee remains 0.125% on ocean cargo only.
- Entry scrutiny increased. CBP is challenging vague descriptions, split shipments and undervaluation. An invoice that says "furniture parts, $1.20 per unit" invites an exam; one with a 10-digit HTS line, material composition and unit values does not.
You also need the boring infrastructure: an EIN, a customs bond (continuous bonds start at $50,000 and pay for themselves after a few entries), and a licensed broker filing the entry summary on CBP Form 7501. Regulated categories bring partner-agency rules — FCC for anything with a radio or power supply, CPSC for children's furniture and mattresses, FDA for food-contact ceramics, EPA for TSCA-covered panels. If you paid IEEPA tariffs between April 2025 and February 2026, CBP's refund process is still open and a Court of International Trade class action has widened access.
Our customs clearance team files ISF, AMS and the entry through licensed brokers, and the document audit we run before booking is the cheapest delay insurance on this lane.
How to Ship from Foshan to the USA Step by Step
- Confirm footprint and HS line first. Measure cartons, calculate CBM, and agree the 10-digit HTS code before you compare rates — duty, not freight, decides whether the order works.
- Choose the port from the factory address. Nansha for most Lecong, Longjiang, Nanzhuang and Dali cargo; Yantian for a specific US West Coast string; a river barge only when the factory sits by the dock.
- Book to the cut-off, not the sailing date. The barge cut-off, the CFS receiving cut-off and the vessel cut-off are three different deadlines.
- Arrange pickup, export declaration and loading supervision. Foshan factories rarely load on the day you expect; photograph and seal the container at the factory.
- File ISF and AMS 24 hours before loading, then clear US customs. Resolve any PGA hold before the container leaves the terminal.
- Keep the file. Invoice, packing list, B/L, ISF confirmation, entry summary, Lacey declaration, TSCA records and loading photos — CBP can ask for them up to five years later.
Landed Cost of Shipping a 40ft Container from Foshan to the USA: A Worked Example
One 40HQ of wooden dining tables and sideboards, HS 9403.60, FOB $32,000, ex-Lecong, delivered to a warehouse in Ontario, California, sailing Nansha to Los Angeles in October 2026:
| Cost line | Amount (USD) |
|---|---|
| FOB goods value | $32,000 |
| Factory pickup, Lecong to Nansha (40HQ) | $260 |
| Export declaration and origin port charges | $180 |
| Ocean freight, Nansha to Los Angeles | $5,400 |
| Marine insurance (0.35% of CIF) | $131 |
| Destination THC, DDC, chassis and documents | $580 |
| Brokerage, ISF filing and bond fee | $150 |
| Duty at 37.5% of the $32,000 transaction value | $12,000 |
| MPF at 0.3464% (within the $34.58 – $670.86 band) | $111 |
| HMF at 0.125% | $40 |
| Drayage, Los Angeles to Ontario, CA | $450 |
| Total landed cost | ≈ $51,300 |
Two details matter more than the total. US duty is assessed on transaction value, not CIF — freight and insurance are excluded, unlike most markets in Europe, Africa and Latin America. And duty, MPF and HMF together are about 23.5% of landed cost: a 5% freight saving is worth roughly $270 on this shipment, while moving a chair from 9401.61 at 50% to a lower-rated classification can be worth thousands.
FAQs About Shipping from Foshan to the USA
How much does it cost to ship a 20ft container from Foshan to the USA? Expect roughly $3,300–$4,300 port-to-port to the West Coast and $4,600–$5,700 to the East Coast in October 2026, plus origin and destination charges and duty.
How long does shipping from Foshan to the USA take? Door-to-door, allow 22–32 days for a West Coast FCL and 36–48 days for the East Coast. LCL adds 5–7 days for consolidation and deconsolidation.
Is Foshan a deep-water port? No. Foshan's river docks (CNFOS, including Sanshan in Nanhai) feed Nansha, Yantian, Shekou and Hong Kong by barge. Ocean sailings leave from those deep-sea ports.
Do I have to route through Shenzhen or Guangzhou? Not always — you can also barge to Hong Kong — but in practice Nansha is the default for Foshan cargo because it is closest and has the most frequent cut-offs.
What is the cheapest way to ship from Foshan to the USA? LCL is cheapest below about 14 CBM; above that a 20GP or 40HQ usually wins on cost per cubic meter. Sea freight beats air on everything except urgency.
Can I still ship small parcels from Foshan to the USA duty-free? No. The $800 de minimis exemption is indefinitely suspended, so parcels need an entry and pay duty. Express rates of $9.50–$14.50 per kilogram are the practical option for samples.
Do I need a customs bond to import from China? Yes. Either a single-entry bond or a continuous bond, which has a $50,000 minimum and is cheaper per shipment once you import regularly.
What documents do I need for US clearance? Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, ISF confirmation, entry summary (CBP Form 7501), certificate of origin where applicable, plus product-specific certificates.
What duty will I pay on furniture from Foshan? Wooden tables and cabinets are typically 37.5%; upholstered wooden chairs and kitchen cabinets reach 50% because of the Section 232 furniture layer. Lacey Act and TSCA Title VI compliance is separate from duty.
Can DTFU Logistics handle door-to-door DDP from my Foshan supplier? Yes — pickup in Foshan, export declaration, ocean or air freight, US clearance, duty payment and delivery to your warehouse or FBA appointment, under one price.
Is shipping from Foshan to the USA still running normally? Yes. Capacity is stable, carriers announced six blank sailings for the week after October 15, and transit times are in line with the ranges above. Peak-season and Lunar New Year windows are the ones to book early.
Shipping from Foshan to the USA: Getting the First Container Right
Foshan rewards importers who treat it as a manufacturing city, not a port: pick the gateway from the factory address, price the duty before the PO, and treat the cut-off as the real deadline. Do that and the ocean rate becomes a detail.
DTFU Logistics handles Foshan-origin cargo through Nansha and Yantian every week — including furniture, tiles, lighting and appliances — and we will tell you plainly when a product's duty profile makes the order unworkable. If you want a landed-cost number for your own shipment, send us the product details and destination ZIP and we will price the freight, the clearances and the duty line together.
